Working hard on your feet all day can cause serious issues if you have poor footwear. With every step , two to three times your body weight can be directed on to your foot. Poorly designed and made footwear directly affects workplace fatigue and orthopaedic problems in the lower back, legs and feet. These are significant occupational health concerns.
Blundstone is the pioneer in enhancing comfort in work and safety boots. We first developed the patented Shock Protection System (SPS) in our dual density soles across Polyurethane, Nitrile Rubber and Thermo Urethane Polyurethane soles. SPS directly reduces workplace fatigue and orthopaedic problems in the lower back, legs and feet. Since then we have further engineered and improved the performance of our soles with the addition of PORON® and now PORON® XRD™ in our SPS MAX. Blundstone is committed to continuing to enhance the comfort of our boots and support improved foot health. We invest heavily in research and development from our base in Hobart and work on collaborative research projects with manufacturing partners around the world, enabling us to access the best and latest technology available.
Comfort Arch Footbed
All Blundstone footwear incorporates a comfort footbed to cushion and nurture the foot. Our footbeds are all breathable and washable, and can be replaced as required*.
There are different degrees of padding incorporated into our different footbeds.
Our ultimate comfort arch footbed is made from soft polyurethane, covered with a full length cushion of foam polyurethane, topped by a long wearing mesh cover. This footbed also includes a large pad of PORON® XRD™ under the ball of the foot with an airflow and moisture wicking system.

SPS MAX has been designed and engineered to provide the ultimate protection and support for your feet emanating from the sole of your footwear. Blundstone's sole construction is designed to reduce workplace fatigue and orthopaedic problems in the lower back, legs and feet. SPS MAX includes a large insert of PORON® XRD™, the world's most advanced microcellular shock absorbing material underfoot.
SPS MAX with PORON® XRD™
Blundstone's premium Xfoot range, and selected styles in the Xfoot rubber range, incorporate the new and revolutionary PORON® XRD™ inserted into both the heel and the forepart of the sole construction. PORON® XRD™ absorbs up to 90% of the energy from the impact of a step, surpassing performance of competitive impact absorption materials. SPS MAX with PORON® XRD™ provides a new level of underfoot comfort for the wearer as well as a cushioning system which reduces shock impact through the legs. PORON® XRD™ is infused with Microban antimicrobial protection which protects the material from the growth of bacteria, mould or mildew which can cause stains, odours and product deterioration.
Hobart Gumboot Manufacturing
Blundstone utilises world-leading Italian technology to manufacture our gumboot range in Hobart, Tasmania (capacity to manufacture 400,000 pairs a year). Our recently upgraded plant allows for product with three premium quality PVC densities - delivering ultimate comfort, lighter weights and extended product life. It's great for the environment too given our innovative world–first reprocessing of waste PVC material. Catering for the diverse and demanding mining, construction, agricultural and food industries, the Blundstone gumboot range showcases the way innovation can provide better comfort and better protection for wearers.
