The maritime industry has shaped the Pacific Northwest for centuries. It supports a broad range of industries, including; maritime logistics and shipping, commercial fishing and seafood production, ship and boat building, repair and maintenance among others.

What inspires you?

Matt Barton, who is into ship construction and maintenance talks about what inspires him, “big boats, small boats, doesn’t matter to me, I have a passion for the entire industry. The waters off the Oregon coast are some of my first and favorite memories, it’s where I grew up. To watch a boat glide through the water is so beautiful.

This is the time of the year we get boats ready for shrimp season, from working on the engines to getting the nets and safety equipment ready on the boat. People’s lives are on the line every single time they take a boat in for construction and overhaul. And it’s our job to service these vessels so that they can go out and work and come home to their families at the end of the day."
